Duane J. Roth

Duane Roth is chairman and chief executive officer of Alliance Pharmaceutical Corp., a company developing pharmaceutical and biotechnology products. Prior to co-founding Alliance in 1989, Roth was employed by Johnson & Johnson and American Home Products Corporation (now Wyeth), where he held senior management positions in their operating companies.

Mr. Roth currently serves on a number of boards and advisory committees for organizations including the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO); California Healthcare Institute (CHI); BIOCOM San Diego; California Technology (Cal-IT2); UC San Diego Foundation Board (Chair); UC President’s Board on Science and Innovation; San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation; San Diego Science and Technology Council; and San Diego State University - College of Business Administration.

He has received numerous awards for his contributions to the City of San Diego and the biomedical industry, including the AT&T International Business Leadership Award, San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation Civic Entrepreneur Award, Junior Achievement San Diego Business Hall of Fame, and PricewaterhouseCoopers Service to the Biotechnology Institute for Telecommunications and Information Community Award.

Mr. Roth is active in several charitable and educational organizations, including serving as chairman of the American Heart Association’s Annual Heart Walk and Annual Heart Ball, co-chair of Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Annual Miracles Weekend, and is an advisor to the Preuss Charter School.
