Dominic Ng Dominic Ng is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of East West Bancorp, Inc., the parent company of East West Bank, which trades publicly on the Nasdaq National Market under the symbol EWBC. Ng has led East West since 1992, building the institution into one of the premier U.S. banking franchises. Now the largest Chinese bank in the United States and the second largest bank based in Los Angeles, The Wall Street Journal this year ranked East West in the top 25 best five-year performers among all publicly traded companies and 3rd among banks. Ng has garnered an outstanding reputation for bringing a dynamic and innovative approach to commercial banking. He designed and led the transformation of East West from a $600 million in assets savings and loan association – initially serving Los Angeles’ Chinatown residents from one branch location – into a full-service commercial bank with over $7.9 billion in assets, 55 branches in California, one in Texas, and a representative office in Beijing. East West’s market capitalization has increased from $40 million in 1992 to approximately $2 billion today. Ng’s vision and drive to create a unique competitive advantage by establishing the bank as the bridge between east and west fills a profitable void in California banking. By connecting the Chinese ethnic market with California’s vibrant mainstream middle market, East West provides a value-added approach to banking that generates significant business in both arenas. Ng has long been recognized for his leadership and management skills and is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Asia Society of Southern California’s Chairman’s Award, The California Society of CPA’s Outstanding Member in Industry Award, and Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year – Financial Services Award. Ng is also the recipient of an Honorary Doctor of Law Degree from Occidental College. Ng is also active in a variety of charitable endeavors, including having served as the Campaign Chairman for the United Way of Greater Los Angeles in 2000-2001. As the first Asian American to chair the campaign, Ng raised a record amount of funds and broke many philanthropic barriers in Los Angeles. He brought a large slate of new donors to United Way that include minority and entrepreneurial individuals who were previously skeptical of giving to large charitable organizations. He also restructured United Way’s fund distribution channel in Los Angeles to include numerous worthy organizations that lack the infrastructure to raise funds independently. Ng’s success in this endeavor was widely acknowledged by both local and national media. His formula now serves as a model and best practice for United Way chapters and other charities throughout the U.S. Ng serves on the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Los Angeles Branch and on the Board of Directors of PacifiCare Health System (NYSE: PHS), one of the nation's largest health and consumer services companies with $12 billion in annual revenues. He also serves on a number of other boards, including the Asia Society, Board of Trustees; Bowers Museum, Board of Governors and Co-Chairman of the Development Committee; and California Bankers Association, Board of Directors. A native of Hong Kong, Ng came to the United States in 1977 where he received his BBA degree from the University of Houston. He later became a Certified Public Accountant and spent a decade at Deloitte & Touche, between the Houston and Los Angeles offices. After leaving Deloitte & Touche, he became President of Seyen Investment, Inc., in Los Angeles. In 1992, Ng became President and CEO of East West Bank and was elected Chairman in 1998.
