David G. Booth

David Booth is the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of Dimensional Fund Advisors (Dimensional). Dimensional is one of the pioneers of the application of academic research on capital market behavior to the practical world of managing investment portfolios.

The firm maintains close links with the University of Chicago and other research centers for financial economics. Board members and consultants include some of the nation’s most distinguished academic theorists, including Eugene Fama, Kenneth French, Roger Ibbotson, Donald Keim, Nobel laureate Robert Merton, and Myron Scholes.

Dimensional manages over $50 billion in assets and serves more than 200 corporate, government, college endowment, charitable, and union clients.

Mr. Booth was one of the pioneers of indexing when he started his career with Wells Fargo and worked on the first index funds with John A. McQuown. He later served as vice president and pension investment consultant at A.G. Becker, Inc. (now SEI, Inc.). Working initially out of his Brooklyn, New York brownstone, he founded Dimensional's US office in 1981 to provide access to the small capitalization market, which was largely under-represented in institutional portfolios.

Mr. Booth has written numerous articles including "Diversification Returns and Asset Management" with Eugene F. Fama, which won a Graham and Dodd Award of Excellence from the Financial Analysts Journal in 1992.

Mr. Booth serves on the Board of Governors of the Kravis Leadership Institute and the UCLA Foundation, and is a member of the foundation's investment committee. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Academy in Rome and the Paintings Conservation Council of the J. Paul Getty Trust. He also serves on the Advisory Council of the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, is a member of the University's Board of Trustees, and is Chairman of its investment committee.

Mr. Booth received his MBA from the University of Chicago in 1971. He also holds an M.S. and B.A. from the University of Kansas.
